You've Got More Than You Can See

You’ve got resources even you don’t know you have.

Some years ago when I was Director of Development for a Christian College in eastern North Carolina. . .I went to see a successful farmer about a donation.

After giving the farmer my sales pitch about helping others . . . he began to tell me that he had not had a good year financially. He claimed that the year was even worse than the year before.

I knew something about his financial situation because his daughter attended the college and she was always talking about her Daddy.

For instance, I knew he’d purchased a new truck ($25K), a new Corvette for his wife ($30K), a new car for his daughter ($20K), a new tractor ($45K) and a new combine for harvesting his wheat ($50k). . .so I smiled and recited the lists of things that he’d paid cash for.

I will never forget how serious he was when he said “Yes, I paid cash for all that stuff. . . but I didn’t have any money left over to put in the bank.”

God Is Checking You Out

Did you realize that God is checking you out….

God is very specific in instructions. “All the commandments which I command thee this day shall ye observe to do. . .” Deut 8:1 KJV

In Hebrews 8:5 we are told that God used the children of Israel as an example for us. There is a very good reason that you and I should obey His directions “. . .that ye may live, and multiply, and go in and possess the land which the LORD.” V 1

When it comes to wealth and/or opportunity God checks us out . . . to determine our response to His Word and His commands.

“And thou shalt remember all the way which the LORD thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or no.” V 2

If you don’t like where you are in life right now. . .this very moment it can change.

1. WHAT’S THE PROBLEM?

W. Clement Stone, the founder of Success magazine and the Combined Insurance Company of America, once said:

“To solve a problem or to reach a goal, you don't need to know all the answers in advance. But you must have a clear idea of the problem or the goal you want to reach.”

In assessing the problem . . . you need to know or probably already do that it may be painful, exasperating, frustrating, embarrassing and stressful.

When we say that, it generally means we should . . . but we’re not going to do what we need to. That is until we’re faced with something motivational like the reality of the consequences we’ll face for a failure to act.

I was standing in a hardware. . .which in and of itself. . .is an unusual place for me to be. Just ask my fine wife, Bev.

But maybe I should explain. I told Bev before we were married that I’d take her places she’d never been, do things she never dreamed of . . . but if something broke down, somebody else was going to fix it. For almost 39 years of marriage . . .I’ve kept my word.

In fact, someone called our home on one occasion and asked Bev if I was handy. She said, “No, but he’s close to the phone, if you’d like to speak with him.”

So it is noteworthy if you ever hear that I’m standing in a hardware store of any description.
